Panama City Beach Mayor Introduces Conservation Park
The design phase for a state of the art water conservation system on a 3,000 acre tract of wetlands in Panama City Beach is in its final stages and construction is expected to begin within the next 12 to 18 months. A tour of the site was hosted by Panama City Beach Mayor, Gayle Oberst, on June 6 for members of the Best Steering Committee, and representatives from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Audubon Society and NOAA.

Park Will Feature 20 Miles Of Hiking and Biking Trails
An extensive water and wetlands conservation project being undertaken by Panama City Beach promises to be a major addition to the public park facilities in the area as well. At a tour of the 3,000 acre site on June 6, Panama City Beach Mayor, Gail Oberst, announced that the facility will be named Panama City Beach Conservation Park.

Driveway Car Washing Pegged As Source Of Bay Pollution
Jimmy Branch, owner of three car wash operations in the Panama City area and recent president of the International Car Wash Association, made a presentation to the Stormwater/ Contaminants Project Leaders meeting on June 12, to provide background information on the role car washing plays in water use and pollutant contribution to the Bay.

Trash Bash Nets Ton Of Debris


Madison Chesser guided the canoe while her father, Jay, loaded on the trash scoured from shores of Econfina Creek on May 19. The cleanup event was organized by the Friends of St. Andrew Bay (FSAB). Seventy volunteers pitched in. Click here for more photos.
